Dear Julie,
It’s a miracle that I’m still alive. The conditions in this concentration camp are ghastly. Many are sick beyond help (Diary Entries from World War II Jews in a Concentration Camp). They practically live in their excrements (Diary Entries from World War II Jews in a Concentration Camp). I pray every day that I will survive this nightmare and come back to you when the war is over. What’s even worse is the treatment we are receiving. First, we get gathered by Germany’s Secret Police along with all of the Jews, communists, Christians, homosexuals, and other “impurities” (Trueman). We live in fear of all the Gestapo (Trueman). I have witnessed several men trying to escape this prison, but none succeed. The fugitives are caught and brought back to the camp for a public execution (Trueman). They murder us for the fun of it and to show off their strength (Trueman). We have heard rumors of men being tortured to death because they would not give information to the Gestapo (Simkin). These are truly dire times. But, I want you to remember that I will never stop loving you. I will always be with you.
All my love, David
